Our Music

We have a vast music library and have been fortunate to receive some fantastic pieces of music from several talented arrangers.

Our library has hundreds of pieces of music; ranging from classical music to popular music, from easy listening tunes to TV/film themes, from military marches to hymn tunes.

Our concert programmes are varied are designed to suit all tastes.

For example, our collection of Classical Music includes items such as Starauss’ “Beautiful Blue Danube” and “New Baroque Suite” by Ted Huggens.

We also play a substantial number of Classical Overtures, mainly for competition purposes, but often selected movements are played in concert.  In the past we have played pieces as challenging as Mussorgsky’s “Pictures At An Exhibition” and “Night On The Bare Mountain”.  Other overtures played recently include Verdi’s “Un Giorno di Regno” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas.

We understand that not everyone enjoys a heavy programme of classical music so “lighter” pieces play just as significant a part in the orchestra’s repertoire:

A selection Scottish music often features in our concerts; including “The Rose of Kelvingrove” and the classic “Highland Cathedral” all of which prove popular at concerts.

Our movie themes are so varied there’s bound to be one you’d recognise. “Concierto de Aranjeuz” from Brassed Off, “Gabriel’s Oboe” from The Mission are just two great examples.  We also have in our playlist theme music from films such as “Schindler’s List”, “Braveheart”, “The Sound of Music”, “Pirates of the Carribean” and “Les Misérables”.

Our concert playlist also features some classic Military Marches, including Strauss’s “Radetzky March”, Sousa’s “Stars & Stripes” and Fucik’s “Florentine March” to name but a few.

We are also able to provide a wide selection of Christmas Music throughout the Festive Season.

Listen to Us

We have a large selection of pieces available to view on our YouTube channel.

Below is a selection of some of our most recent videos. We continued to perform as best we could during the Coronavirus lockdowns, with our players recording pieces at home!

Highland Cathedral

We released this video in the first few weeks of lockdown and it’s fair to say that we were blown away by how many people had viewed the video! The music, by Roever and Korb was arranged by J. Bryce. There is a little help from some bagpipes in this video too!

Moment for Morricone

A medley of movie themes from the late Ennio Morricone, arranged by Johan de Meij and adapted for flute orchestra by Emma Kennedy. This video premiered at the Scottish Concert Band Virtual Festival in December 2020, where it was awarded a “Gold” award.

Londonderry Air

A traditional Irish piece, arranged by Percy Grainger and adapted for flute orchestra by Emma Kennedy. This recording from our homes was first streamed as part of the Scottish Concert Band Virtual Festival on 4th April 2021, where we were awarded a Gold Plus award.
