We are pleased to announce that Carluke Primrose Orchestral Flutes' have regained the SAFA Scottish Championship on 24th November. The announcement of the result after the contest was met by celebration from the orchestra's members and conductor, Jon Hargreaves. The Scottish Amateur Flute Association's National Contest was hosted at Calderhead High School in Shotts.
In this contest each entrant must play a Hymn Tune of their own choice and a test piece set by SAFA. This year's test piece for Grade 1 was "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Paul Dukas. In the Hymn Tune section, Carluke entered with "I Vow to Thee My Country", by Holst.
Mr. Jerry Randalls was the adjudicator of the day's performances and awarded many of the trophies on offer to Carluke Primrose.
Carluke took home prizes for 1st place both in the Hymn Tune section and in the main Grade 1 section. Congratulations to our one-man percussion team - Paul Kennedy - who took home the Percussion Award. and we thank him for stepping in at short notice. In addition, our percussion team were delighted to have recieved the percussion award once again. The conductor's interpretation prize was also awarded to Carluke.
